From the blog:

Live Buy Local ArlingtonAre you investing in the city you live in?

The new campaign rolled out by the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce, the city of Arlington, and Downtown Arlington Business Association asks for just that. Some Arlington businesses already have the “Live, Think, Buy Local Arlington” logo displayed.

The purpose of the campaign is to encourage customers to do their shopping within the city limits. Why? The sales tax (or the portion of it, currently 2.1% out of 8.6% stays in Arlington), which helps local parks etc.

It’s interesting that the campaign in Arlington was built after the similar initiative started in Marysville last year, which helped slow retail decline in Marysville when compared to the Snohomish County average.

So, if you are an Arlington resident, do the patriotic thing and spend money where you reside!

I used the search tax rate tool from the WA Department of Revenue website to check a few popular shopping places in the area the Marysville-Arlington area.

  • WinCo in the Smoky Point area is witnin the city of Marysville.
  • Marysville WalMart is outside the limits of Marysville (in unincorporated Snohomish County, that’s where the tax goes to)
  • Local Costco is witnin the city of Marysville limits.
  • The Seattle Premium Outlets are outside the limits of Marysville (unincorporated Snohomish CountyArlington is within
  • Arlington Lowes is within Arlington city limits
  • Tulalip Home Depot is outside Marysville limits (unincorporated Snohomish County)

So are you going to spend the money where you reside?
